– A police hunt for a taxi driver believed to have dragged a female passenger along a road in Melbourne’s north-east yesterday has been called off.
A 41-year-old Mooroolbark woman was left nursing facial injuries yesterday after she left a cab with a friend in Donvale at 1:10am following an argument with the driver.
The two female passengers had flagged down the taxi on Anderson Street in Templestowe, but were ordered to leave the vehicle by the driver when an argument erupted, prompting him to pull over on Springvale Road near the intersection of Serpells Terrace.
Investigators were probing whether the driver – who failed to come forward after the incident – had dragged the woman along the road as she left the car.
But detectives cancelled their search late last night after establishing the woman, who was intoxicated , sustained the injuries after she stumbled.
The woman was taken to Maroondah Hospital where she was treated for minor injuries – Erin Marie
