– A booze-fulled driver who blew almost six times the legal limit was nabbed after ploughing into three parked cars in Fitzroy on Friday night.
The 21-year-old St Albans man returned an alcohol reading of 0.294% after he was caught by police, having initially tried to flee the crash scene on foot.
The driver, who is expected to be charged on summons, was travelling along Greeves Street about 9 pm when he was seen crashing into stationary cars.
Several onlookers tried to apprehend the man to no avil and he escaped.
However, police were called to the scene and managed to locate and detain the man two hours later in Moor Street, about 300m away.
The driver is expected to be charged on summons with drink driving, disqualified driving and failing to remain at the scene of an accident.
It comes as two random breath test sites led to the interception of a string of drink drivers as part of Operation DISC, run by the Yarra Police Service Area.
