POLICE SEEK STABBING WITNESS – Monday March 18 2013

– Homicide detectives are investigating the stabbing death of a man in Fitzroy early on Sunday.
Mystery surrounds the death of the Werribee man, 21, who died at the scene after being stabbed a number of times with an unidentified weapon.
A council worker discovered the man in a distressed state in Johnston Street about 5am and rendered first aid and calked triple-000. An Ambulance spokesman said the man was dead by the time they arrived.
A nearby convenience store worker said his colleague had heard screaming from the area near the corner of Johnston Street and Fitzroy Streets around the time of the incident.
Detective Sergeant Allan Birch said police hoped witnesses or anyone who was in the area around 5am will come forward. Detectives and forensic investigators swept surrounding streets on Sunday for a weapon.
Detective Sergeant Birch said: “We don’t know who was involved and we don’t know exactly how the injuries were inflicted. Because of that our investigation is extremely wide.”
Investigators have been examining CCTV footage from the nearby strip of nightclubs and bars – Benjamin Millar
