KILLER TO STAY FREE – Friday March 22 2013

– The one-punch killing of a young man outside a nightclub six years ago would likely remain unsolved, an inquest was told yesterday.
Police recently reviewed evidence in the death of Shannon McCormack outside the former QBH nightclub.
Fresh CCTV vision was released, and a $100,000 reward offered.
But Detective Sergeant Brent Fisher told the Coroner’s Court yesterday that while the review might have revealed a new person of interest, no credible information about him had so far been offered.
Police released that footage, and a photofit compiled by one witness in February.
In that footage, about 35 minutes before the killing, the person is seen walking past the nightclub and stopping to talk to a group.
“The male person in the footage…May or may not be the actual offender in relation to the death of Shannon McCormack,” Detective Sergeant Fisher told the court.
“Investigators are treating this person as only as a person of interest whom investigators would like to speak to…thee are no current suspects.”
Mr McCormack, 22, was fatally attacked after trying to break up a fight on May 22nd, 2007.
Outside court yesterday, his parents, Bill and Cheryl, made a last ditch plea for information.
The inquest was adjourned pending coroner Peter White’s finding – Paul Anderson
