DNA LINK IN RAPE CASE – Friday March 29 2013

– A Melbourne man has been charged with taking part in a gang rape more than 30 years ago after police matched the DNA with frozen evidence, a court has heard.
The man, now aged 47, appeared in the Melbourne Magistrates Court on Thursday facing three charges related to the rape of a woman on December 12th, 1982, in Melbourne.
She was driven to the Brighton foreshore where four men raped her, Detective Senior Constable Adam Cox said.
Testing by cold-case detectives found one DNA profile matched that if the accused man.
Magistrate Peter Reardon granted the man bail on condition he report to police once a week and not leave Australia. He is due to reappear for a committal mention on June 21st – The Age
