MAN’S al-QAEDA LINK – Tuesday April 9 2013

– A man facing terror charges collected al-Qaeda magazines instructing how to wage jihad and also spoke of making a remote-control bomb that could ignite a bushfire in Australia, a court has heard.
Adnan Karabegovic, 24, of Officer, appeared in Melbourne Magistrates Court on Monday on 12 counts of collecting and possessing documents connected with a terrorist act. Each charge carries a maximum jail term of 15 years.
The court heard Mr Karabegovic had copies of an al-Qaeda magazine, “Inspire”, on two laptops and on a USB device in his pocket when arrested after his home was raided by the Australian Federal Police last September.
Issues found in Mr Karabegovic’s possession focused on poisoning waters supplies and making bombs out of kitchen ingredients.
Prosecutor Daniel Gurvich said Mr Karabegovic, when questioned by the AFP, said he did not read instructional articles, but only opinion pieces.
