POLICE TO PROBE COLLINS – Friday April 19 2013

– Notorious double murderer Rodney Collins will be interviewed by police over an allegation of arson allegedly committed more than 15 years ago.
A Melbourne magistrate on Thursday granted a detective permission to interview Collins on Friday morning for two hours. Collins is serving a life sentence for the murders of Ray and Dorothy Abbey in 1987 and is believed to be a suspect in a number of other murders.
Collins’ lawyer, Christopher Traill, told Melbourne Magistrates Court on Thursday the police application was not opposed.
Mr Traill said that his client was undergoing a very long sentence opinion a high-security unit where he received infrequent contact with others.
He told magistrate Gerard Lethbridge that Collins was anxious that his routine not be interrupted by the interview process.
In granting the application, Mr Lethbridge said there were reasonable grounds to suspect Collins had committed the offence of arson – Steve Butcher
