– A St Kilda sex worker who worked alongside slain woman Tracey Connelly for more than a decade has called on Homicide detectives to ramp up their efforts.
Kat, a 20-year veteran of the street sex trade, said she feared Ms Connelly had already been forgotten by an uncaring public, and was disheartened by a perceived lack of progress in the police investigation.
She said methamphetamine was making street sex work more dangerous, with clients affected by the drug prone to fits of violence.
Kat spoke during a rally at Talbot Reserve last week in honour of Red Umbrella Day, which aims to stop violence against street workers.
Fellow sex worker Claire urged: “What happened to Tracey should not have happened, and it’s important we raise awareness…so it doesn’t happen to anyone else.” – Dana McCauley
