– Scotland Yard detectives yesterday interviewed a NSW woman in relation to sex abuse allegations against Rolf Harris.
The 83-year-old entertainer was arrested in London on suspicion of sex offences, as part of an investigation begun as a result of the Jimmy Savile child sex inquiry but unrelated to it.
Harris has denied there is a basis for any allegations.
Detective Sergeant Gary Pankhurst, of the Metropolitan Police Child Abuse Investigation Command, another Scotland Yard detective, and an Australian Federal Police escort arrived at 43-year-old Lauren Martell’s home at Wisemans Ferry, north of Sydney, at noon yesterday.
They spent more than 2 1/2 hours interviewing the mother of two and former accountant, who said she first contacted local police with her claims in January.
She claimed she witnessed events involving Harris at a West End recording studio with her then boyfriend, who was working on an album for which Harris was recording didgeridoo backing music.
Ms Martell said at the time, as a woman in her early 20s, she did not contact authorities because she did not think anyone would believe her.
Early this year – after news broke that an Australian entertainer was being questioned in relation to offences in the UK – she contacted local police, then Scotland Yard.
Ms Martell said she hoped going public might encourage others to come forward – Herald Sun
