OFFICER ON 11 CHARGES – Friday July 12 2013

– A police officer charged by a special taskforce investigating possible links between cops and outlaw motorcycle gangs is facing 11 charges.
Senior Constable David Branov, an officer of seven years, appeared briefly in Melbourne Magistrates Court yesterday.
Senior Constable Branov, 41, was arrested in April by members of Taskforce Eagle.
He is accused of perverting the course of justice by manufacturing false information in an official police record, which prevented a man from being further investigated for drug trafficking.
Senior Constable Branov is also accused of accessing information from a police database and “injuring the public interest” by releasing that information.
He is further charged with two separate counts of accessing information about several people on police databases and disclosing that information in an act that “was reckless as to whether the information may have resulted in the danger to other persons”.
It is also alleged that Senior Constable Branov possessed an unregistered handgun and a silencer, possessed a document or equipment with the intention of trafficking a drug of dependence, failed to store a firearm or ammunition securely and possessed films depicting a minor engaging in sexual activity. He is also charged with two counts of possessing amphetamines – Paul Anderson
