– Police are searching for a trio who allegedly found a lost $2500 winning bet slip and cashed it in.
An unlucky punter lost the winning footy multi-bet in Bourke Street on a night out.
He made the bet in Werribee on multiple AFL games on a Friday night, with the $10 investment returning 250-1.
The punter went out the night after to celebrate, but realised he lost the slip at 5am the next day.
The tipster immediately reported the loss.
Investigators found that the TAB ticket had been cashed in at a Laverton outlet at 10:15pm on June 29th – hours before the man realised he lost the ticket which had the names of the winning football teams printed on it.
Detectives have released images of three men who they believe can assist with the investigation.
“We wish to speak to anyone who may have knowledge of the ticket or who redeemed it,” Detective Senior Constable Frank Cuce said.
“There are offences of theft by finding or obtaining property by deception that may be applicable in this instance.”
Tabcorp spokesman Michael Tzaferis said it was unusual for lucky punters to misplace winning tickets.
He said punters who had online accounts would be able to keep a track of their bets, but there was an appeals system if a punter lost a winning slip – Jon Kaila
