EX-WORKER SWINDLES THE RBA – Friday July 19 2013

– The Reserve Bank of Australia has been the victim of an inside job, with a former employee swindling about $600,000.
The bank’s former facilities manager, Megha Mizerni, has pleaded guilty to one count of obtaining property by deception and is awaiting sentencing in the County Court of Victoria.
Mizerni was charged by the Australian Federal Police earlier this year after the RBA reported the missing money.
Mizerni, who worked at the RBA’s Melbourne office in Collins Street,now as able to obtain the money by falsifying invoices for maintenance services over about an 18-month period.
“The matter was immediately referred to the Australian Federal Police. An investigation was undertaken by the AFP and charges were laid. The person in question has now pled guilty to the charges and is awaiting sentencing,” a spokeswoman said.
“The Reserve Bank is taking the appropriate steps to recover the stolen funds, and expects to be successful.”
Another senior bank employee, research scientist Wayne Kevin Jackson, is also facing charges.
Mr Jackson was committed to stand trial in January after being charged with three counts of dealing with the proceeds of crimes involving more than $300,000 and one count of attempting to take $47,550 belonging to the RBA between May 2010 and May 2012.
