– A French councillor’s wife has been charged with attempted murder after stalking her own husband after his failed bid to become mayor started a family row.
Laurence Honore has admitted stalking with intent to kill after her husband Christian, a municipal councillor in Valenton, northeast of Paris, lost a bid to become the town’s mayor.
The 44-year-old dressed up as Catwoman and hid a gun in the bushes outside the pair’s home as part of the bizarre murder plot.
Laurence Honore has admitted stalking with intent to kill her husband Christian, a municipal councillor in northern France
According to the Daily Telegraph, the middle-class housewife said she failed to pull the trigger when she had her husband in her sights after having a last-minute change of heart.
Legal experts say the case is a story of ‘frustrated political and family ambitions that turned sour’ after Mr Honore lost a bid to become mayor of Valenton in the Val-de-Marne, a region northest of the French capital which is home to Disneyland Paris.
Mrs Honore had kept a blog flaunting her apparently happy home life called ‘My Crazy Family’ in the run-up to the mayor election in which she wrote: ‘A family not quite like the others. We’re working towards it becoming ordinary and normal.’

The blog, which also featured pictures of the couple’s children and trips to Disneyland, was part of a family-run campaign to get Mr Honoré elected mayor in 2008.
Mrs Honore was campaign manager and her oldest daughter Ludivine also helped out.
But Mr Honoré lost in the first round in March that year to a communist candidate, sparking a spiral of bitter family recrimination.

Mr Honore was described as ‘a touch paranoid’ by friends and neighbours after telling of fears of an attack once he was mugged in 2009 and his car burned.
He returned to the family home on June 14 while his wife was hidden in nearby bushes wearing a Catwoman outfit, latex gloves, a crash helmet and carrying a .22 Long Rifle revolver.
Mr Honore said he immediately ‘felt a presence’ outside the unlit property, but Mrs Honore later told detectives she had ‘wanted to kill’ her husband and lost resolve.
Police are now trying to establish the woman’s motives for wanting to kill the councillor.
The charge of attempted murder against Mrs Honore may be dropped as when officers approached her she ‘was calmly walking towards her vehicle’, suggesting she had ‘voluntarily desisted’.
The couple have since divorced, with the depressed and sometimes suicidal Mrs Honore claiming she was the victim of ‘repeated violence’ by her husband.
Mrs Honore is also accused of enrolling a former French spy and the personal bodyguard of the president of the French parliament in her botched assassination plot.
Both deny any involvement in a murder plot.
A family friend told La Parisien: ‘When you know Laurence, she’s a very well done-up lady, always very well-dressed and absolutely not sporty. I find it hard to imagine her squatting in the bushes waiting for Christian with a gun in her hand.’
