– BAYSIDE detectives are hunting for foreshore felons who broke into nearly 30 bathing boxes in Brighton on Monday night.
The thieves raided about a third of the iconic shacks on Dendy St beach.
Police say 28 bathing boxes were broken into between 4pm on Monday, October 6, and 7.30am on Tuesday, October 7.
Glen Eira Bayside detective Senior Sergeant Dale Johnson said they were still investigating what was taken.
”Offenders forced entry to 28 bathing boxes by cutting padlocks,’’ Sen-Sgt Johnson said.
“The boxes were searched by an unknown number of offenders.”
“We are currently in the process of contacting all the affected owners to see what, if anything, was taken.’’
He said they hadn’t had a spate of break-ins of bathing boxes on this scale for a long time, although occasionally one or two were targeted.
Sen-Sgt Johnson said anyone who saw anything suspicious near the bathing boxes around that time should phone Glen Eira Bayside CIU on 8530 5225 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
