Major Collision Investigation Unit detectives are investigating the circumstances surrounding a serious crash on the Western Ring Road at Keilor East this morning.
Officers have been told a black Mercedes sedan was travelling east along the highway about 12:40am.
As the driver approached the Calder Highway he lost control of the car and rolled it.
Emergency services were called to the scene and the driver, believed to be a man in his 20s from Truganina, and his passenger, also believed to be a man in his 20s from Truganina, were trapped in the vehicle for a short time.
Both were taken to hospital with the passenger suffering life threatening injuries while the driver suffered minor injuries.
Detectives wish to speak to anyone who saw the crash or the Mercedes prior to the incident.

Diversions are in place for east bound traffic at Keilor Park Drive and investigators expect to be at the scene till mid-morning.
