A 19-YEAR-OLD Corio man will appear in Geelong Magistrates Court on Friday afternoon, charged with aggravated burglary and causing injury, following an alleged assault on a 67 year-old man in Hamlyn Heights last month.

Victim Wally Janeczko was in his lounge room when he heard someone come through the front door of his Chaucer St home just before 7 pm on August 22nd.

The victim initially believed it was his 93-year-old father, but was then confronted by a man with a knife who threatened him.

Mr Janeczko was beaten around the head in front of his father and left injured with severe bruising and swelling.

His father ran out of the home to get help from a neighbour who raised the alarm.

The offender ran from the scene and jumped the rear fence to get away.

At the time, Mr Janecko said a hose was used to flood the home, forcing his father to investigate while a man laid in wait to attack.

In a sustained attack believed to have lasted up to 20 minutes, the attacker allegedly used his knife to cut a wallet from the victim’s back pocket.

The teenager will face charges including aggravated burglary, armed robbery, intentionally cause injury, recklessly cause injury and assault with a weapon.

He was arrested and charged on Friday morning.
